Alumnus of College of Computer Science and Technology Sun Wen Awarded the 2025 Sloan Research Fellowship

The list of 2025 Sloan Research Fellows has been officially announced, with Sun Wen, an alumnus of Zhejiang University’s College of Computer Science and Technology, selected for his contributions to the field of computer science. A total of 126 distinguished scholars were chosen this year, with approximately 28 of them being Chinese scholars, making up 22.2% of the list. Each fellow will receive a $75,000 grant, which can be used over the next two years to support their research expenses.

Biography

Sun Wen is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University. He began his studies in computer science and technology at Zhejiang University’s College of Computer Science in 2008 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2012. He earned his master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014, and his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in 2019. Sun has also served as a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research New York. His research focuses on reinforcement learning, artificial intelligence, and decision-making.

About the Award

The Sloan Research Fellowship, established in 1955, is awarded annually to outstanding researchers in the fields of physics, chemistry, mathematics, neuroscience, economics, computer science, and earth system science. The award is highly prestigious in the academic community and plays an important role in advancing scientific research.

The Sloan Research Fellowship is considered a leading indicator for future Nobel laureates. As of February 2025, 58 Sloan fellows have gone on to win Nobel Prizes, 17 have received the Fields Medal (the Nobel Prize of mathematics), and 72 have been awarded the U.S. National Medal of Science.
