The Sino-US Collaborative Education University Presidents’ Round Table Meeting was held on the International Campus, Zhejiang University, on June 2. Themed on “For a More Inclusive, Integrative, Innovative Future”, the meeting aimed to jointly promote the high-quality development of the Sino-US collaborative education.
Professor DU Jiangfeng, President of Zhejiang University, delivered a keynote speech, and Madame XI Ru, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education, made opening remarks. Professor Robert J. JONES, Chancellor of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Professor Jeffrey S. LEHMAN, Vice Chancellor of New York University Shanghai, Professor LIU Yaolin, Chancellor of Duke Kunshan University, Professor Cary ANDERSON, Executive Vice Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University, and Professor Minking Chyu, Dean of Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute, also delivered keynote speeches at the meeting.
Professor DU Jiangfeng first extended a sincere welcome to the participants from afar. He emphasized that Zhejiang University has always been unswervingly implementing the global open development strategy, proactively exploring the practices of Sino-foreign collaborative education, and playing a positive role in promoting mutual understanding between the two peoples and advancing the development of China-US relations. He shared Zhejiang University’s practices to actively explore the “Internationalization at Home” collaborative education model, consolidate and optimize the global research network for win-win cooperation, and expand more room for international cultural exchanges development. Facing the future, Zhejiang University looks forward to working with all participating parties to actively promote the implementation of the consensus reached at the San Francisco meeting between Chinese and US heads of state, and the important initiative on China-US exchanges and learning put forward by President XI Jinping. Meanwhile, Professor DU proposed to deepen exchanges and carry out mutually beneficial cooperation, to jointly build a new highland connecting global education; integrate with and promote each other, and undertake responsibilities, to jointly address new challenges in the human society development; pursue open innovation and strengthen mutual learning, to jointly deliver on the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind; join hands to advance China-US exchanges and collaboration in education, science and technology, and culture, to jointly create a more inclusive, integrative, and innovative paradigm of Sino-US collaborative education.
Madame XI Ru pointed out that this Sino-US Collaborative Education University Presidents’ Round Table Meeting was a concrete step to implement the consensus reached at the San Francisco meeting between the two heads of state, providing an excellent platform for planning high-quality educational collaboration between the two countries. The year 2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and the United States. She urged universities in both countries to seize the critical period of opportunities for international exchanges, continue with opening-up and expand collaboration, strengthen exchanges and deepen mutual trust, be innovation-driven and pursue a win-win future, so as to promote in-depth communication and cooperation among the high-level universities in both countries.
The participants shared their respective achievements and experience of international collaborative education, carried out in-depth exchanges on the opportunities and challenges faced in the current education, and exchanged constructive opinions.
Professor ZHOU Jianghong Vice President of Zhejiang University, and Professor WANG Beijiao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wenzhou-Kean University were present at the meeting. Professor HE Lianzhen, Vice Chair of Zhejiang University Council and Co-Chair of the Joint Management Committee of ZJU-UIUC Institute (ZJUI) chaired the meeting. Leaders of the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, delegates of the participating Chinese and overseas universities, and heads of the relevant departments of Zhejiang University also attended the meeting.
