ZJU Ranks 1st at China's 2016 Science and Technology Award

On the morning of January 9, China’s 2016 Science and Technology Award, dedicated to honoring distinguished scientists and research achievements, was hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council at the Great Hall of the People. Zhejiang University clinched 9 awards, thus ranking 1st in number among institutions of higher learning.

This dazzling ‘report card’ includes 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award as an innovative team, 2 second prizes in the category of natural science, 3 second prizes in the category of technological inventions and 3 second prizes in the category of science and technology progress.

The Innovative Team of Clean Energy Utilization, led by Ni Mingjiang, Yan Jianhua and Luo Zhongyang from the College of Energy Engineering, won the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Since the 1980s, the team has established an effective mechanism for innovative scientific research and talent cultivation and has long been committed to cutting-edge basic research and technological innovation in the domains of coal-fueled electricity generation in an efficient and eco-friendly manner, pollution control in electricity generation, biomass electricity generation as well as numerical testing in energy conversion. The team has garnered 14 national science and technology awards and 4 state-level teaching achievement awards, thus gaining a well-deserved reputation both at home and abroad.

The project of “Structure Design and Function Construction of Fluorescent Metal-Organic Frameworks” by Prof. Qian Guodong from the College of Materials Science and Engineering and the project of “Mechanism and Topological Theory for High-gain Power Conversion and Modulation” by Prof. He Xiangning from the College of Electrical Engineering won the 2nd prize in natural science. The project of “Key Technological Innovation and Industrialization in Ultra-fine Processing of Major Fat-soluable Nutrients” by Prof. Chen Zhirong from the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, the project of “New Technologies for AE-based Fluidized Bed Reactors for Polyolefin” by Prof. Yang Yongrong from the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the project of “Key Technologies for Production of Low-consumption and High-efficiency Soft Magnetic Composite Materials” by Prof. Yan Mi from the College of Materials Science and Engineering won the 2nd prize in the category of technological inventions. The project of “Key Technological Research and Application in Drive and Propulsion System for High-power Marine Gearboxes” by Prof. Tong Shuiguang from the College of Mechanical Engineering, the project of “High-safety Customized Control Equipment and System” by Prof. Wang Wenhai from the College of Control Science and Engineering, and the project of “Key Technologies of Prevention and Control of Continuous Cropping Obstacles in Vegetable Facility Gardening” by Prof. Yu Jingquan from the College of Agriculture and Biotechnology won the 2nd prize in the category of science and technology progress.
