At the top of 500-meter corridor in east teaching building on Zijingang campus, two rows of photovoltaic array have been installed. These are the 68kW photovoltaic power generation system jointly constructed by Zhejiang University and Fuji Electric Holdings Co., Ltd. The completion ceremony of the project was held on the afternoon of August 29.

Photovoltaic power generation is a promising form of power generation with renewable energy. This industry has become one of the world’s fastest growing high-tech industries. Since 2004, Zhejiang University has been cooperating with Fuji Electric in research and development in the field of smart power grid. In 2010, Zhejiang University—Fuji Electric Innovation Center was founded. Zijingang photovoltaic power generation is an important project in the smart grid research of the center.

Zijingang photovoltaic power generation system uses amorphous silicon thin film photovoltaic modules produced by Fuji Electric, and the photovoltaic grid connection system developed by both sides.

The implementation of the project is also meant to promote the low-carbon campus construction together with the research in smart grid and renewable energy. It’s reported that F-WAVE is very soft and flexible so that it can be bended and installed on the wavy top of the corridor with a perfect match with the surrounding. The material is safe due to its non-breakable feature, and it can also avoid light pollution. All of these contribute to the sustainable and green construction of the campus.
