On the afternoon of April 8, right after the settlement of Department of Ocean Science and Engineering in the new Ocean Building on Zijingang Campus, the famous oceanographer Professor Chen-Tung Chen was appointed as Qiushi Chair Professor at Zhejiang University.
Prof. Chen-Tung Chen established the Institute of Marine Geology at National Sun Yat-Sun University after years of research at Oregon State University. He holds positions in many international academic organizations and has an important impact in the international maritime community. On the basis of Oceanography, especially Chemical Oceanography, Prof. Chen conducts research in climate change, environmental change in coastal areas, carbon cycle and so on with fruitful achievements.
Since the establishment of Department of Ocean Sciences and Engineering in 2009, Prof. Chen has committed himself to the research and development of maritime science at Zhejiang University. In June, Prof. Chen will give lecturers to graduate students and analyze data obtained on trials with faculty at Zhejiang University.
After the appointment ceremony, Prof. Chen delivered an academic lecture on “Nature and Science Papers from Reasoning”.
