From March 29 to 30, a forum gathering scientists and engineers in the field of neural information research was held in Hangzhou. The International Symposium on Frontier Studies in Neural Engineering was co-sponsored by Chinese Academy of Engineering, the State Foreign Experts Bureau and Zhejiang University.

Academician Pan Yunhe, the former president of Zhejiang University and the honorary chair of the symposium, stated that the close link between life sciences, physics, information science and engineering gives birth to new directions of interdisciplinary studies. Neural Information Engineering is the cross-disciplinary study rapidly developing in recent years.

In the two-day symposium, many established international researchers delivered presentations on their study, including Prof. John Donoghue from Brown University, Prof. John Chapin from New York State University, Prof. Jose Principe the distinguished professor from University of Florida and so on. Zhejiang University professor Zheng Xiaoxiang introduced the progress made by his research team in the field of neural information engineering.

The topics covered in the symposium include brain-computer interface and its clinical application, cognitive computing and control, neural information acquisition and processing, neural education information engineering and so on.
