Professor Sumio Iijima Was Appointed as an Honor Professor of Zhejiang University

From October 8 to 13, Professor Sumio Iijima, Meijo University, Japan, a discoverer of carbon nano-tubes, visited ZhejiangUniversity with his delegation. In the afternoon of October 11, an awarding ceremony of appointing Professor Sumio Iijima as an honor professor was held at ZhejiangUniversity, and President Wei Yang issued a certificate of honor professor. 

 

Professor Sumio Iijima is a discoverer of carbon nano-tubes, and his scientific research team has made distinguished contributions to the preparation and applications of carbon nano-tubes. Several academicians attended the ceremony.

 

Professor Sumio Iijima has ever a long exchange relation with ZhejiangUniversity. In 1990s, faculty members from ZhejiangUniversity studied and researched in his team and coauthored papers. In 2005, School of Sciences and School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, both of ZhejiangUniversity, signed exchange agreements with Faculty of Science and Technology, Meijo University, respectively. After 1997, more researchers from ZhejiangUniversity won doctoral degrees, working with his team.

 

After the ceremony, Professor Sumio Iijim gave a lecture entitled Characterization and Applications of Nano-Carbon Materials, for faculty members and students.
