Recently, a feasibility evaluation meeting of equipment acquisition for Zhejiang University Electron Microscopy Center (preparation) was held at the Chao Kuang-piu Building, Yuquan Campus. Zhejiang University will invest 45 million RMB yuan to purchase high-end electron microscopes. These equipments are mainly used to study relationship between material properties and structures, and that between properties and atomic structures, and to support scientific research as a platform base, in order to promote interdisciplinary development in the fields of materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering and mechanical engineering, said by Academician Zhang Ze, the director of the Center.

The advanced electron microscopy facilities can be used to observe atoms with a minimum spacing under a higher resolution. "As long as referring to aspects of functions and structures, including properties of daily necessities, medicines, devices, and etc., all depend on states of atom orders." Professor Zhang Ze said: "The acquisition of top-level equipments will promote scientific research for the university and also for its surrounding area. Further, our goal is to aim at the south of China."
