The Intelligent Service Robot of Shanghai Expo mascot "Hai Bao" made his debut in Shanghai to mark the 50-day countdown for the 2010 Expo on March 7, 2010. The robot was designed by Zhejiang University and set to serve the Expo from May. As Vice-President of ZJU Chu Jian introduced, with touch screens on their chests, thirty-seven 1.55-meter-tall "Hai Bao" robots are designed to be able to fulfill 5 tasks, to welcome visitors with six languages, to answer inquiries about Expo, to interact with visitors with a reservoir of knowledge, to take photos for visitors and even to make talent show. The "Hai Bao" robots will be located at Shanghai's two international airports and at the entrances of some major Expo venues, representing the "scientific Expo" concept. This is the first time large-scale applications of intelligent service robots are presented in China.
