 State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instrumentation(MOI) was founded in 1989,and certified by State Education Commission and State Development Planning Commission in 1995.The laboratory was established on the basis of the Department of Optical Engineering at Zhejiang University, which is known as the “Cradle of Optical Engineering Education in China”. 

The research in MOI focuses on state-of-the-art technology in optical instrumentation, with emphases on micro or sub-microscale optoelectronic detection, optical-electric thin films and display technology, radiation and spectrum detection, lasers, photonic integration and nanophotonics.

Covering an area of 3000 square meters, the laboratory is equipped with advanced research facilities including femto-second laser, thin-film multilayer coater, wavefront interferometer, optical spectrometer, near-field scanning optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and focused ion beam system. Prof. Liu Xu is the director of the laboratory.
