Abstract

    Recently some exotic quantum condensed materials have been found, for instance, graphene and topological insulators, etc. Graphene is a single atomic layer consisted of carbon atoms arranged in hexagonal honeycomb structure with a novel quantum state and linear dispersion of the energy band structure. The topological insulator is a bulk insulating material with a Dirac-type conducting surface state (SS) and its dissipationless transport of topological surface state(TSS) protected by the time-reversal symmetry. Both of them have shown unique crystal and electronic structures and other properties, attracting potential applications to electronics, photonics, spintronics and quantum computation, etc. However, many problems remain to be solved, we have used atomic clusters deposited on their surfaces and fabricate them like field effect transistors in order to measure their transport properties and observed unexpected phenomena which might be useful in near future. (1) The electronic coherence is greatly enhanced after Pd cluster deposition. Moreover, the saturation is observed at zero temperature both before and after cluster deposition. (2) We build the graphene-based spintronic devices by using the Ir clusters coating, where the spin relaxation period can be tuned in an order with a back gate voltage.  The spin relaxation is believed to arise from the Kane-Mele spin orbit coupling in graphene, and spin orbit coupling strength has 5.5meV. (3) The electronic transport of surface states of topological insulator Bi2Te3 from AB to AAS interference can be modulated by Co clusters.


报告人简介:

        王广厚, 原子分子与团簇物理学家,中国科学院院士。现为南京大学物理学院和固体微结构物理国家重点实验室教授,博士研究生导师。国际小颗粒与无机团簇会议(ISSPIC)国际顾问委员会委员,《材料科学论坛》(Materials Science Forum)(瑞士)国际顾问编委。《物理学进展X》(Advances in Physics X(英国)1963年毕业于北京师范大学物理系,1980.6-1982.8在美国纽约州立大学(奥巴尼)物理系访问学者,研究粒子与固体相互作用, 1990.10 – 1991.10在德国萨尔兰大学新材料研究所和BASF研究中心作客座教授,研究孤立原子簇和纳米材料的结构和性质。

        长期从事物理学交叉学科的科学研究和教学工作。1984年起,在国内率先开展原子团簇物理的实验和理论研究并取得了一系列创造性成果。著有《粒子同固体相互作用物理学》两卷本(上、下册,科学出版社,19881991)和《团簇物理学》(上海科学技术出版社,2003)等学术著作。在国际学术刊物(SCI)上发表论文300多篇。带领研究组自行设计和研制成功三代团簇实验装置。获得包括国家自然科学二等奖、胡刚复物理奖和教育部科技进步一等奖等9项科技奖和10多项发明专利。培养研究生46名,其中毕业博士生33名。主持了国家自然科学基金重大项目(原子团簇的化学和物理)等10多个科研项目。主持了包括第十二届小颗粒与无机团簇国际会议ISSPIC-12)在内的4次国际学术会议,在国际上产生很大的影响。
