Dr. Xu obtained his BS degree from Nanchang University (1997), MS degree from Beijing University of Chemical Technology (2000), and PhD (2007) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wyoming under the supervision of Prof. Youqing Shen. After finishing his postdoctoral training at Purdue University, he joined the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical at the University of South Carolina as an Assistant Professor and promoted to tenured Associated Professor in 2017. His research interests are to develop cancer targeted nano-sized drug carrier to eradicate cancer and to design a novel drug delivery platform to cross the blood brain barrier for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) diseases. He has published more than 30 original papers and book chapters, and holds 10 US granted patents. He was a New Investigator Award recipient from the American Association of College of Pharmacy (AACP).
