Abstract:

Research support services at The University of Western Australia are well established and include the traditional areas of research grant support, research ethics and integrity, research data and systems, and commercialization. However, there is a new innovation agenda of the Australian Government that requires universities to focus more of their efforts on industry engagement and the impact of our research. At UWA they are developing capacity to identify and grow research funding from industry, business and the private sector through a coordinated business development service. They are also focusing on the translation ofresearch by giving UWA researchers the resources to enable them to identify, describe, measure and record research impact stories. Some new initiatives have already had success such as UWA Research Week and UWA Crowd Research and these will be described in more detail.
